Watchdog for agent mode

I wanted to share my experience using Cursor and provide some feedback that I believe could enhance its functionality.

What I Love:

  • Exceptional Agent Performance: The AI agent works remarkably well, especially when I utilize the Test-Driven Development (TDD) approach. It has significantly streamlined my development process and improved productivity.

Areas for Improvement:

  • Occasional Stalling: I’ve noticed that the agent sometimes “gets stuck” and is unable to progress with solving certain problems. This intermittency can disrupt the workflow and require manual intervention.

Suggested Enhancement:

  • Implement a Watchdog Feature: It would be incredibly beneficial to have a watchdog mechanism that monitors the agent’s performance over multiple cycles. If the agent is unable to resolve an issue within a set number of attempts, the watchdog could:
    • Compare Expectations vs. Reality: Analyze the discrepancies between the intended outcomes and the actual results.
    • Step-by-Step Problem Formulation: Break down the problem into smaller, manageable steps to better understand where the process is faltering.
    • Hypothesis Generation: Create a series of hypotheses to identify potential reasons for the issue and iteratively test them to find a solution.

Integrating such a feature would not only enhance the agent’s reliability but also provide deeper insights into problem-solving processes, making Cursor an even more powerful tool for developers.

Cheers & happy new year!
