With the change to API pricing, what value is Cursor bringing that I couldn’t replicate at the same cost just using Model APIs directly in real VSCode with actual, functioning plugins (e.g. the only thing good about VSCode)?
this is a real question – I genuinely want to hear what your thoughts are.
look through my nasty post history lol. ive been speaking on this for AGES. i just stopped because it makes me mad. its full advantage of middleware. like with 5090s, or access to normal machinery, or affordable and easy bridge to 3rd party models, you start to wonder what the value prop is, and what currently is going on in a lot of areas.
you lost 20% margin charged by Cursor, lol
You get half price API access if you throw $200/m at them. MAYBE. Lots of stuff not included (Bugbot, BG agents..).
Compared to Claude Code: GUI + multi model.
