Why I am not receiving 0.45 version? “Attempt update” does nothing but my current version is 0.44.11
Hey, we slowly roll out new versions to users to ensure there are no bugs we need to fix first!
Therefore, it’s not available to everyone right now. It should be available in the next few day,s however.
tested it just now you can installed via https://formulae.brew.sh/cask/cursor#default
If there are bugs and you’re using paying users as QA, then wouldn’t you want to let the many people on here who want to try the latest version actually do so?
I can tell you that my experience when periodically opening cursor is, every time:
- check changelog out of curiosity
- get excited about new features
- open cursor and try the “cursor: self update” command and have it do nothing
- go to the website, download installer, update, and find I’m on an old version
- get frustrated, try self-update command repeatedly, and finally come to this forum out of frustration
If you were simply not releasing a version yet because bug fixing needed to be done on it then, fine - that’s to be expected. But by selectively releasing new versions randomly to only some people with a lottery system, you’re just making everyone else angry. You’re saying “this is out now and look at all these neat things” and simultaneously then saying “oh, you’re paying for this and think you should get what we’re saying is actually out? nope”
The concept of “stable” and “beta”/“alpha” download links has been a thing for like 30-40 years at this point and it works.
At the very least, put a sticky post explaining the rationale behind this so it doesn’t just seem like the team has complete disrespect for the paying user base.
Or alternately, have the “latest version” be in a separate “Coming soon timeline” section and not in the Changelog.
We are looking at changing our procedure for rolling out updates, but for now, it is labeled as a rolling update on our changelog to ensure people know it’s being made available over the next few days.
I appreciate you wanting to try new features when they are available, but we do this to ensure we do not release a buggy Cursor version to all of our users!
