Will Background Agents be free with annual renewal?

Hi! I have a question.
We know that if you renew Cursor Pro for a year before September 15, the Auto mode will be free for that year.

But what about Background Agents?
Right now we only pay for model usage, but I noticed that Auto mode was added there as well, and I also saw that the pricing for Background Agents (per container) might change.

Will this also be free if I renew the subscription now?

As far as i know, yes it will BE unlimited/free if you got Annual Pro before 15 September. But not Background Agents, they are priced at API token i guess

Now, all API requests are billed, except for Auto and a few free models like GPT-5-mini, so there’s no fundamental difference between models. In Background Agents, the model selection is limited and there are no free models, but Auto mode has been added there.

Hi @Murgur as my colleague reported there are two different things that may have gotten mixed up:

  • Background Agents: they use virtual machine on our servers and are always billed at API rates. See Pricing

  • Auto mode: is included as free until 15 September 2025 and will remain included for annual plans until the next renewal.
