Describe the Bug
Cursor is interrupting prompts midway through execution and reporting that the conversation is too long then recommending I start a new chat.
While I know that this is normal behavior when a conversation lasts a very long time, and have seen it in my project before, it seems recently either a bug has been introduced to cursor or the limits for chat length have become problematically short.
I encounter this routinely after 1-10 prompts in a new chat.
Things I have tried:
Reducing context complexity by removing all memories, all rules, and never attaching any files to the context.
Removing ChatGPT5 from my model options
Not using auto (specifying sonnet)
Only using auto
Reinstalling my operating system
Reverting back to the version of cursor I was using last it was working for me (1.3.8)
None of this has helped at all.
Cursor has effectively become unusable for me as by the time the agent has discovered where it last left off in a previously interrupted conversation I get the same error and need to start a new chat.
I know there is already a very long thread about this, but I wanted to start one here that addressed up front that I have already tried every reasonable course of action and none of the commonly parroted suggestions from that thread seem to help.
I really hope that this is resolved soon, or at the very least we get some communication about it from the cursor team.
Steps to Reproduce
For me, I can open any project or even start a new one, ask Cursor to do some menial tasks of no real complexity or context length, and then see the “Your Conversation is too Long” error.
Expected Behavior
I should be able to use Cursor for more than 5 minutes at a time in a single conversation.
