0.48.5 - Cursor Completely Unresponsive

I updated cursor this a.m. and haven’t been able to access my project since.

The window opens, chat history is populated. But I can’t open any files in my explorer, and the folders appear empty. I can’t even open the bug report dialog box within the app. Nothin responds, not even Quit Cursor.

On force quit, and re-open the project files and folders populate and become accessible but soon after the window becomes un responsive.

I’ve also fully restarted my computer, only to experience the same circumstances.

Anyone else experiencing issues? Any recommendations? I don’t want to lose a workday over this.

Hey, have you also tried opening another project or a blank Cursor window?

@deanrie, thanks for the suggestions. I have opened other projects, and created new empty ones. They all inevitably end up unresponsive.

I’ve also opened with extensions disabled - no changes.
I’ve cleared the app data via terminal - no changes.
I’ve redownloaded - no changes.

I really don’t know where to go next, any direction is appreciated.
Cheers,
Joey

The only option is to reinstall Cursor, this should help.

Thanks @deanrie - I’ve actually uninstalled and reinstalled twice now. The problem still persists. Cursor support says they have a long queue, maybe others are experiencing this too. Should I try downgrading to .37?

If possible, downgrade, we’ll try to figure out what the reason is.

I see the update this morning but kind of scared to go bleeding edge at the moment. I’m wishing cursor had a built in Roll-back functionality that would enable easy roll backs of these bleeding edge updates.

What version do you have? 0.48.5?

I’m using the version that’s on the official page.

It doesn’t let the terminal work, my files don’t appear, when I close the cursor it doesn’t let me, I have to enter the application manager

@deanrie, I should note also that when I reinstalled per your instructions, I rolled back to version 47.8 but I’m still experiencing the same issue. Thanks again for your help.

This all aligns with my experience.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, but it was for a whole day, I thought it was my laptop and I was going to reset it but I went to the forum and I see that there are more people having the same error hahaha and I almost reset my laptop.

Thank you haha, was considering this but I will be patient. Moving my project into windsurf now to give that a shot and reclaim some of my day… unfortunately for cursor, I may enjoy windsurf and stay there. I spent 600+ on cursor this month. Hope a solution comes sooner than later so I can return.

Is there a solution to this yet? What’s the most stable build? This has wasted my day too and Cursor has charged me for their non-responsive agents.

ah. just upgraded to the latest version one hour ago but cursor freezes itself and my mac.

Status page says everything is up ( https://status.cursor.com/ ) but This morning I have not been able to use agent in cursor at all. I was hesitating to update because I saw this post and assumed the update was the issue but after about two hours of attempting to use I thought maybe if I update that cursor agent would be responsive.

Same experience so far.

Is this happening for others???

Cursor agent is mostly unusable with multiple different models. Ha!

I’m paying for this service but for the past couple of days I have not really been able to use it consistently. My experience at best has been intermittent.

What is going on?? Why no official communication from the team.

Communication WOULD REALLY HELP.

Are we being lied to about the service status?

It definitely seems like they’re lying to us. Especially with the lack of responses and fake news on the Cursor Status page.

You can’t be charging usage pricing in times like these. Why are you making people pay money for a service that is not working?
