The lack of European models will definitely be a blocker for wider adoption of Cursor in EU. Using non-european models is less and less accepted over there. Mistral models are improving every day and Devstral 2 should be considered a serious contender, and actually the only acceptable solution for a coding assistant in most European companies. In addition to supporting the model itself, it should of course run in GDPR compliant data centers preferably in Europe territory, as Mistral platform does.
I’ve not seen one person use Mistral. everyone is using non - european models in Cursor, no one even cares where it’s located. the benefits are too high with these tools, i assume laws will be bended
I mean, Devstral 2 is a month old and previous models were not really on par, so it’s kind of a chicken-and-egg problem, if not tool allows Mistral it’s equivalent to silently killing it despite the model’s qualities. I confirm that in consulting, security, finance, health and so many other field we just can’t even consider non-European models and therefore many devs are just deprived from using Cursor and fallback to less efficient solutions.
