Agent mode has turned into "Ask" mode

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

The latest update has rendered agent mode nearly useless for me. Having to confirm all code changes is time consuming, but also the agent is providing me with the code to change myself. If I was looking to do that, I wouldn’t be using agent mode.

Moreover, the agent is unable to run terminal commands as they always fail or return nothing.

Finally, the agent is trying to create documentation (.MD) files for everything it does, despite clear instructions not to do so.

Steps to Reproduce

Use it

Expected Behavior

  • Agent can perform code changes
  • Agent can run terminal commands
  • Agen should not create documentation for every single code change.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @EscalatedPenguin,

Could you please upgrade to version 2.1.49? This will help us verify whether this issue has already been fixed.

If the issue persists on the latest stable version, please let us know what model you’re using with Agent. A request ID would also be helpful for our investigation.

Additionally, if you haven’t already, I’d recommend trying a new Agent session to see if the issue persists across different chats.

Let us know how it goes!

Hey Colin,

It’s interesting as this all started when I clicked the “Install update” button. I tend to wait up to a week to install new updates due to the issues I’ve had in the past with new builds. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem like it installed the latest version.

Will Cursor update to the latest build, or will it install the next build in sequential order? I ask as I may have been a few updates behind and it may have went from .46 to .47.

I just opened it up and it’s on .48, even though I never updated again since making the thread. I’m installing .49 now and will report back any findings.

EDIT: The newest version (*.49) seems to be working much better.

Thanks!
