For a while, we had a handy total plan usage indicator co-located with the context window usage. This was a huge QoL feature, and now it’s been removed sadly.
I could understand people not wanting to see it there, but could we at least get a preference, similar to the way the Editor View’s agent pane handled it? I hate having to check in Preferences just to get an idea of my total usage.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. The indicator is still there, it’s just set to auto by default in the Agents window, so it only shows up when usage goes above about 50%. If you want to see it all the time, open Settings and set cursor.composer.usageSummaryDisplay to Always. You can find it by searching for usage summary.
Hey, thanks for flagging this. This isn’t about the default auto setting, it’s a real regression. One of the recent PRs removed the usage ring in the Agents window without a replacement, so even with usageSummaryDisplay: always it won’t show up there. In the Editor window it’s fine, like you noticed.
We know about the bug and it’s been reported internally, but I can’t share an ETA for a fix yet. Once we have an update, we’ll reply in the thread.
As an example of how this is super important for workflows, today I invoked GPT 5.5 three times using a new prompt strategy. It used $400 of usage - my entire month of API - gone like that.
At least if I had this alert there I’d have noticed after the first prompt and saved 2/3 of my usage.
Hey, thanks for sharing a specific case. (400 for three prompts is a strong data point, I’ll pass it to the team as an extra signal for prioritization.
The bug about the missing usage ring in the Agents window is still being tracked. I don’t have any new ETA to share yet.
Hi, usage summary info can not display in my Editor Mode window, please help to check it:
-Latest Cursor IDE version: 3.5.17
-MacOS
-IDE restarted Done
@Elvin_Wang, I see the screenshot. The “New Agent” tab opened in the editor area is part of the Agents Window UI, and it’s affected by the same regression I mentioned earlier in the thread. The ring isn’t showing there right now, even with usageSummaryDisplay: always. This is a known bug and we’re tracking it internally, but I can’t share an ETA for a fix yet.
If the ring is also missing in the classic sidebar chat (when the chat is open as a side panel next to your code, not as a separate tab), please send a screenshot of that exact window and we’ll check it separately. It should work there.
Hi @deanrie , thank you supports!
Actually I thought my previous screenshot is the Editor Window - can display it without bug…
As you said, I tried to find it in classic sidebar mode, but may be not that correct place…
Could you please give more info/guide/screenshot to make me see the “dream” usages icon…
Hey, one more thing: the ring doesn’t show up right away. You need to start a chat and send at least one request, and it’ll only appear once your usage passes a certain threshold. So in an empty chat or with low usage, the ring won’t show.
Try sending a couple of requests and check again. The ring should appear once your usage hits the threshold.
