It seems chat history is broken for me as of this morning.
Check the forum to ensure the issue hasn’t been reported already
Not finding anything recent about chat history, though I am seeing some login issues – weekend server issues of some sort?
Provide a clear description of the bug
I was working in a project like normal in Cursor this morning and restarted the program in case while troubleshooting there were any caching bugs ( ye olde “have you tried turning it off and on again” standard). Upon restart, it wanted me to log in (which hasn’t happened before that I can remember in months of using Cursor), and ran me through the various new user/getting started flow after I logged in (which seemed odd). Now, the chat history won’t load for any of my chats, in any project/folder. I’ve tried restarting my PC entirely – no luck there.
Explain how to reproduce the bug (if known)
N/A (no clue what triggered this differently than usual)
Attach screenshots or recordings (e.g., .jpg, .png, .mp4).
All of my chats load at the bottom in the history panel as usual – but when I click them, it just loads a blank window. This happens in every project/folder where I have various chat histories.
Found a couple others and commented there with further troubleshooting the other day:
It seems like chat history would be recoverable/not completely wiped given that you can still see the names of the past chats, but it doesn’t seem like anyone’s found a retroactive fix yet for recovering their chat histories with this type of bug yet though from what I’ve found, so it’s hard to say. For now I guess I’ll just have to work from the assumption that all prior chat context is gone (RIP).
Interesting – so, I’m guessing something under the hood ahead of the .50 update, released widely today (which apparently lets you export chats), is probably what caused this – but I still can’t load old chats to export them:
So, ironically, in the quest for exporting chat history, we lost my chat history. Any word yet on recovering corrupted chat history? The chat names still exist (as mentioned before), they just don’t load.
