Auto-“Your message is too long.” But I only send a sentence

It work really well only 4 days ago. but after update a new cursor version, now even I only send a sentence without any attachment in auto model, it tell me my message is too long… there must be some bug behind…

idk, try to use auto and sent a message after your usage in advance models ran out?

Hey, thanks for the report. It looks like a bug in the new version, the “message too long” error shouldn’t trigger on short phrases in auto mode.

Please try:

  • Clear your chat history and start a new conversation
  • Fully restart Cursor
  • Check if any large files are open that might be auto‑included in context
  • See if you have many MCP servers enabled

If that doesn’t help, it’s likely a regression in 1.7.9 that needs a fix. Temporarily roll back to the previous version while the team investigates.
