Bug - Verified students get one year of free Cursor Pro

+1, same bug. Got verified by SheerID but clicking “apply discount” just redirects me to Stripe with full fees (20 USD).

I encountered the same issue. It seems to arise from applying for the student discount while either logged out or logged in with another account. I’ve noticed that there’s now a popup prompting users to log in with a valid .edu email when clicking the “Apply Account” button—but this popup didn’t appear earlier today.

Currently, when I click the “Apply Discount” link from the confirmation email (Cursor - The AI Code Editor), I observe the following:

  • Logged in with my .edu email: Redirected to the checkout page, but the discount isn’t applied.
  • Logged in with my personal email: Redirected to the Settings page (Settings | Cursor - The AI Code Editor).
  • Logged out: Redirected to the student discount application page.

It looks like the verification succeeded, but there’s a bug preventing the discount from being properly applied. Hopefully Cursor will be able to resolve this soon.

It appears that your Cursor account email must match your university email in order for the Student Offer to be successfully applied. Unfortunately, you can only verify with SheerID once, so if you’re like me and tried applying the promo while logging in with your personal email, well, we’re screwed :grinning_face:
Messaged support and they said they can do nothing about it lol

Hi, may I ask how long did the refund take after you subscripted the 1-year PRO plan?

even if you use real education email discount will not apply. no idea why this happening.

I applied through my GitHub account and have sent a successful email. Does that mean I can no longer enjoy the discount? :face_with_crossed_out_eyes:

My student email has always been added to my main github account which i used to signup for cursor. I did the email verification successfully but i don’t think cursor associates the email to my main account.

It’s really frustrating we have an email with the discount and we can’t apply it. Moreover, there are a lot of schools that don’t even provide student emails, so I think they should remove the restriction.

Why does not exists Turkiye in country list ?

are the backend of the student verifier written by cursor? The problem is your side the backend of your website, requires login emails matches the educations email, but actually allows user to type another email.

if it didn’t match, your backend still thinks I am not verified.

The customer service representative had no intention of investigating the issue and was merely trying to shift the blame.
