unfortunately my university email was not set as primary email on github, so Cursor used my personal email to create an account.
Now I’m stuck and can’t redeem the offer

I am a student at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, and I am very interested in joining your recently launched Cursor AI student plan. However, I am unable to verify my student status because my university email ends with “.ac.bd” (e.g., [your-email]@ru.ac.bd) instead of “.edu.”

It appears your system currently only accepts “.edu” emails for student verification, which is standard for US institutions. In Bangladesh, and many other countries, universities use different domains such as “.ac.bd” for official student emails.

I kindly request that you consider allowing international students like myself to verify our student status using our official university emails or by providing alternative verification methods (such as a student ID card or enrollment letter). This would help many genuine students worldwide benefit from your excellent platform

Hi for everyone,

Before you start your student application, you must first create a Cursor account using your institutional email. If you try to verify with different accounts, it will not work and you will not receive the discount.

  1. Create a Cursor account using your institutional email (e.g. [email protected])

  2. Apply and verify your student status to receive the discount.

  3. You will receive a validation confirmation in your institutional email.

  4. When validating, depending on the educational institution, SheedID will perform an authentication check using your ID and a token.

  5. After this validation, your account will have a success status and a new email will be sent to apply the discount.

  6. Once logged in with your Cursor account on the web, access the Cursor Student Discount Application Email and click Apply.

If you already have a Cursor account that is not in the email with the .edu extension, do not use it to get the discount, as it will not work.

Is there a bug reported that not all student emails end with .edu, a lot of universities are .ac. , e.g. in the UK we have .ac.uk and I’m successfully verified via Sheerid, but when I click apply discount, it’s expecting .edu and therefore the discount is not applied in the account.

Hi, everyone! I’d like to add, that for some reason applications are only accepted from university.edu.com but mine is edi.university, and i cant even apply. Is there any way to request manual verification?

I have got the discount and during checkout, i even got the total as zero, but the free subscription only lasts 1 month instead of 1 year as claimed…

IDK why but i’ve mailed support too but no reply yet

I think they intentionally did this why would they release such a product which doesn’t work ? It could be some strategy .
