Cloud agent fails on start: “team environment snapshot is invalid” despite successful setup

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Somewhere else…

Describe the Bug

this is the same bug as what was reported in Cloud agent fails on start: "team environment snapshot is invalid" despite successful setup

I follow the happy path for creating new environments, but when launching a new agent I get an error message saying

We couldn't start the agent's computer, please help us set it up again
Your team environment snapshot is invalid. Open Setup and save a fresh team snapshot.

The workaround in the thread above is not applicable, there is no “Reset to Default Ubuntu” button. I’ve tried to delete the environment and go through the setup motion again, but it always ends up at the same place.

edit: I also tried waiting for 12 hours, it still didn’t work

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Click “Setup environment”
  2. Wait for it to complete
  3. Click “Save to team”
  4. Click “Start new agent”

The new agent doesn’t start, but instead show a generic error message

Hi there,

Thanks for the detailed report and the snapshot ID. This is a known issue where cloud agent snapshots can end up in an internally failed state even though the setup flow appears to complete successfully. Our infrastructure team is actively working on the underlying fix.

I’ve flagged your snapshot (snapshot-20260324-f14157f6-a7d9-403a-be72-4904840d1d68) with our cloud agents team for investigation.

I’ll follow up once we have an update.

thank you for the quick reply, could you use the teaspoon and tell me where I can find the “Reset to Default Ubuntu” button, please? Search yields nothing and neither “cloud agent”- nor “agent” settings has it

See screenshot below

“Manage settings” just takes me to the webapp.

Running this cursor version:

Version: 2.6.21
VSCode Version: 1.105.1

Build Type: Stable
Release Track: Default
Electron: 39.8.1
Chromium: 142.0.7444.265
Node.js: 22.22.1
V8: 14.2.231.22-electron.0
OS: Darwin arm64 24.6.0

My apologies for the confusion. I’ve dug deeper and confirmed that the “Reset to Default Ubuntu” button is not currently accessible in either the Cursor IDE settings or the webapp. The advice in my previous reply and in the earlier thread was incorrect. I’m editing the message to make sure others are not being misled.

Unfortunately, there is no self-service way to reset a failed snapshot right now. This needs to be resolved on our infrastructure side. I’ve escalated your snapshot (snapshot-20260324-f14157f6-a7d9-403a-be72-4904840d1d68) to our cloud agents team for a server-side reset.

I’ll follow up here once it’s been addressed.
