Cloud agent stuck booting VM to modify setup

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Background Agent (GitHub, Slack, Web, Linear)

Describe the Bug

Hey team!

I’ve been quite happy with the long-running cloud agents that were recently released. This morning, I wanted to modify the VM template for our team to add some new tools for debugging, etc. I went into my “Cloud Agents” section of my dashboard, then selected my repo environment and clicked “Continue” on my setup run. My hope was to boot an agent into my VM template image so I could make a few changes and save it.

Clicking “Continue” re-opened the agent session I used to build the VM template. It’s now been stuck for about an hour re-loading the image. Upon refresh, it now just says “Planning next moves” endlessly. Clicking stop has no effect.

Steps to Reproduce

Snapshot ID: snapshot-20260302-87b504a3-0be2-4be6-9c78-e696f1679a7f

Only has one setup run—that’s the one I’m trying to modify.

So to reproduce, I suppose you’d click Continue from within the context of my account.

Expected Behavior

Expected it to reboot the VM session with an agent so I could continue modifying the setup.

Hey, thanks for the detailed report.

Looks like there’s a bug when resuming setup runs using the “Continue” button. I’ve passed this on to the team.

In the meantime, have you tried starting a new setup run from scratch instead of continuing the existing one? That might help work around the issue while we figure out why “Continue” causes the agent to hang.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks, I’ll give that a go a little later. Appreciate the quick turnaround on this

Had time to do it this morning. Making a new image worked, and ironically I was actually able to bootstrap that one from the existing one. So it’s just the “Continue” button that’s broken!

Hey, glad it worked with a new image using bootstrap. I logged a bug for the Continue button, the team is aware. For now, creating a new image is a working workaround.

If you run into any other issues with cloud agents, just message me.
