Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey there.

The OpenAI Codex extension (openai.chatgpt) is a third-party extension that runs its own agent with its own tools, and can’t see MCP servers that you’ve configured in Cursor!

You’ll need to configure Codex seperately.

I suppose if they are part of the same Cursor IDE they should be able to interact with each other.

Is this true or my assumption is wrong?

It doesn’t work that way, unfortunately. Codex configuration, including MCP servers, exists entirely separately from what’s available to the Cursor agent.
