Cursor going full vibe coding but hope Tab will still get some love

Some of you may not know/remember, but when Cursor was released, “Cursor Tab” (copilot++) played a significant role in their success and was considered better than GH Copilot by many at the time.

I even remember people saying it was almost worth the $20 plan on its own.

I know “tab, tab, tab” is going extinct, but I still hope they’ll continue to improve the tab model for as long as possible.

“Cursor Tab” appreciation post done.

OMG… I literally thought the same thing. I remember posting here that I was paying the $20/month mainly for the tab tab tab feature. With that going away cursor becomes completely uninteresting for me. That was always their major selling point for me.

What cursor 3 looks like now is basically identical to something I have built for myself the past days. But I do have a filetree and editor. I thought about cursor’s great tab tab tab feature that I wish I had haha

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Tab is still a key part of Cursor, and we’re continuing to improve it and fix bugs. Our focus on agentic features doesn’t mean Tab is getting deprioritized, these are parallel tracks.

Posts like this help us prioritize. Let me know if you notice any specific issues with Tab.

Hi there,

Did you guys do any updates in the past week to the Tab model? I feel like it’s completely dumb on context-aware tasks across opened files.

  1. Does this have anything to do with a chat being opened in the sidebar, but the sidebar being hidden?
  2. Just started working with Flutter and it feels worse there too. Even across a single file. Is Tab expected to be bad on Dart/Flutter?

Hey, @rennokki. Replying point by point:

  1. The sidebar state hidden or open, and whether it has a chat, doesn’t affect Tab. Tab works based on the context of files open in the editor, so the panel visibility isn’t related. I’m not seeing any specific regression from our side over the last week, and we don’t have other similar reports yet.
  2. Dart and Flutter are supported, there’s no separate bad mode for them. But the quality can vary by language depending on the data. If you can share a specific example what you typed, what Tab suggested, and what you expected, send it over and I’ll pass it to the Tab team.
