Describe the Bug

Every time an agent completes the work the IDE freezes. I cannot do anything but to end the Cursor task in the task manager. I am running Windows 11.

I uninstalled, cleared the Cursor files and installed it again and I have the same issue. I also went back to the earlier version CursorUserSetup-x64-2.1.47, same issue.

This is completely unusable at this point. I need this fixed ASAP.

Steps to Reproduce

Open Cursor IDE
Ask agent to do something
Wait to complete the task

IDE freezes

Expected Behavior

Continue working.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Hey, thanks for the report. This looks like a known issue on Windows - the team is working on a fix.

Try these solutions:

1. Check your tab settings: open Settings (JSON) and make sure "workbench.editor.showTabs" is not set to "single". If it is, change it to "multiple" or remove the line.
2. Try restarting your system - sometimes this helps (related to Windows notifications).
3. Check Windows Updates - a user reported that rolling back update KB5068861 (26100.7171) fixed the freezes.

If the problem continues, please share:

• A screenshot from Help > Toggle Developer Tools > Console during the freeze
• The value of workbench.editor.showTabs from your settings.json

DevTools also are frozen when this issue happens so I cannot copy the console.

Sorry to Piggyback on this but wanted to give more data. I am seeing this freezing with cursor, but it is also happening with Antigravity (VScode based as well). Others report VScode itself is exhibiting the same general behavior. Agent runs, after it completes, the IDE is frozen. Different agents don’t make a difference, etc.

Just fixed some crashes/memory use on 2.2.36. Upgrading to 2.2.43 should help a lot.

Have the exact same issue – seemed to have disappered for a week or so now its back, running 2.4.44 . It hangs at the end of a chat. Seems worse if I have moved to another window. Almost makes cursor unusable . Have tried many of the things reported here.

I deleted chat history and now does not hang at teh end of a response any more.
