Cursor Issues and Stupidity persist for over a month

I have had nothing but issues with Cursor for the last month.
I just burned 302/500 fast request responses fixing issues in functions that this software created.

The first thing it did was work on adding SEO (next-seo) to my site. It worked and worked on it but when we actually went to use it - it didn’t work, during troubleshooting it said I didn’t need it - Next provides this functionality by default and reversed everything it did - accept for the tokens it used.

I then tried to get it to add image functions to my site Blog post page. It added image functionality which created console errors, then fixed the errors but removed the image editing functions we were working on.

Over the last month Cursor has helped me implement functions into my website - most of which either use simulators because it can not figure out how to code it to actually work or they simply just don’t work at all - they sure look good though.

It has NEVER create an SQL query for me that worked the first time, despite searching my schema and being instructed NOT to create Mutable Search Paths - Every single query it creates takes multiple edits to get the desired outcome.

Summary:
This thing is REALLY GOOD at making things that NEVER WORK! Really feels like a scam to me!

Please add the following info to help us diagnose your issue:
:white_check_mark: The forum is complete with the many issues related to the Cursor Software - Buyer Beware!
:lady_beetle: Whenever I ask it to complete a task, it completes it but when I actually use the function it is riddled with errors and doesn’t work. I spend hours troubleshooting tasks that in the end never work.
:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Just try to get it to do something
:camera: No Thanks
:laptop: Windows 10 Pro
:prohibited: These issues should and will be enough to stop me from using Cursor Permanently!

Well, Cursor is just another tool.
Not a magical genie.
Not an ASI, not even AGI.

Moreover, there are several moving parts here:

  • Your brain
  • Your prompts to each chat requests
  • Your Cursor rules
  • The docs about your tech stack you use in chats
  • Cursor itself
  • The used LLM (the biggest thing to check, however you can skip that and use sonnet 3.7 as widely known to be good)
  • Project codebase size and complexity.

So, blaming Cursor (1 piece out of 7) as a scam and ignoring all the other parts feels like ignorance. Like “SQL query does not do what I want, the SQL is a scam”.
Going this way will not help you. Cline/Windsurf/Zed/Copilot will also be bad then. I mean nothing will satisfy your requests, until we reach LLM that will be commonly accepted as AGI (imo). Or maybe even that will not satisfy.

Start reading articles about LLM strengths and weaknesses. Then continue with prompt engineering.

Not trying to do any flame, I also got today here to report 2 bugs which drive me crazy. But I treat it as just another tool which already helped me to get 10x productivity since September 2024, and not going back ever.

Sometimes buggy, more or less (today is “more” lol), but amount of value it gives for $20 is just astonishing. Try to find ANYBODY on the free market for $20 to:

  • write you that amount of code
  • consult you on using SQL with your custom schema (btw try to specify your way of doing things in rules)
  • consume the pressure you put on the chat
You will not find ANY human to do that.

So either you understand the tool/LLM strengths and weaknesses and find your way around them, or go “AI is a scam” and go the bottom of the AI revolution happening right here, right now.

Again, not trying to do any stress, we are in the same boat.

@v-karbovnichy Good description! I can confirm every single word to match my experience exactly!

IMO Worth posting as a separate post and pin to top of “Bugs” topics!

Forum is becoming unreadable from all those people who don’t know how to program but expect that 10$ will create them whatever business idea they have

Today cursor work is especially stupid!!! (I have no idea what happened on weekend.. )
Constant context breaks, he stops after thinking for a couple of seconds. I have to press Send again, and so on ad infinitum. I hope this is not the Cursor team’s know-how on how to make more money on burned tokens.

You really think that these guys are making any money? I highly doubt that our $20 even covers the inference costs, let alone development, marketing, etc.

Not trying to do stress, Does stress in the next post.

Throwing out suggestions of superior knowledge, actually making false assumptions.

Actually knows everything, in the same boat as me.

I marked your post as my solution because it helped me so much, I never knew about cursor rules, I never studied anything, I didn’t know what model I was using, never heard of sonnet 3.7, I wasn’t prompting - I was typing, I had no notes, no readme’s, no tech stack docs - Wow - its really dark here in my moms basement! I’ll just give up now, are you for hire?

No, I don’t think they are making any money! I think they painted themselves in a corner and can’t raise prices for fear of a mass exodus. I think they are doing all this on purpose to stop bleeding money - at our expense!
Thats what I think!

Netflix had over $16 billion in debt from their first decade of operating. They survived because of outside funding because VCs know that if they can corner the market then they will be profitable. These companies and VCs are thinking at a scale of decades, they don’t care about you $20, and they have a cutting edge tool that is enabling people to produce software at an incredible speed. If there was a mass exodus of whiny vibe-coders, I’m sure the community and the company would be better off for it.

All of the complainers on here remind me of the riggies I used to see on poker forums. They all had proof that one poker site or the other was rigged and they always had “proof”. The tone was always identical to what I’m seeing in this forum. Lot’s of people who know the intentions of the evil company that has a complex plan to lure them in just to swindle them out of their $5 buy-in when their opponent rivers a flush. The riggies were always on the forums making threats of leaving the site and they would never be back again. You would see them a week later posting in the sub-forum for a different poker site saying the same thing about the new site, never realizing that the issue was their poor strategy that encouraged their opponents to realize their equity and beat them. They would inevitably be back on the original site they left, cycling through one “rigged” poker site after another.

Hey @RoadkillRon, sorry to hear you’re having some difficulty!

Before digging into your specific issues, can you confirm which model you are using? If it is Claude 3.7, I’d recommend switching to Claude 3.5 and seeing how that fairs!

Claude 3.7 is almost aggressively forward, trying to add functionality and features you haven’t asked for! It can also be more ignorant to the change it may have already made and, as you may have found, it’s removed feature it only just added!

If you drop us an email at [email protected], we’ll be happy to help you out with the wasted fast requests, so you can try this again with a different model.

While Cursor does a lot under the hood to optimize your requests, we rely on the performance of the underlying models to produce the outputs, and evaluate the conversation history, so switching to 3.5 might work well in this scenario!

My IDE is always frozen literally never just responds, in the past few hours it has hung and terminated at least 30 times, it takes upwards of 1 minute just to type a word, this isn’t a production ready interface by any measure. We need a class action lawsuit to address this fraud

Why do you keep saying this to people when nobody actually responds to emails sent to that address?

Why indeed?

Email was sent Sun, Mar 23, 11:54 PM, no response yet, No token reset yet.

No, they did reply to my email. I just registered an account and subscribed for one month, only to find out there was a 14-day trial period with the same benefits as Pro. I emailed them asking to add the 14 days, but they didn’t agree.

I sent the email, No response yet, No token reset yet.

Dan,
I sent the email on Sunday Night, No response yet, No token reset yet. I checked my spam folder too - What’s going on with this?

Hey, unfortunately, due to high volume, we are seeing some significant delays on our email support, but you should get a response from me shortly!

I agree. Now is just token wasting. Making unwanted changes, it refactor files without being asked. if you say don’t refactor it will, can’t remember instructions. It’s just loosing time and money
