Cursor not working at all from the last update 0.49.4

After the last update autocomplete and chat don’t work. Sometimes after restart or window reload it works for a bit then stops. Chat just stuck at “Generating…” or ends up with “Connection failed.”

Hey, have you tried selecting a specific model from the list, like Claude? Does this solve the problem?

No, selecting a specific model doesn’t help. I use autocomplete more than the chat usually and nothing works. I just updated the client to 0.49.5 and still the same. The strange thing is sometimes during the day everything just starts working for a bit and then stops again. So it looks like there’s some sort connection issue with the Cursor’s server. I keep seeing the network timeout error in the dev console.

Are you using a VPN or something similar? Could it be due to network interruptions?

No VPN, and it’s not my Internet come on, Cursor Freezes only when I send message to ask or agent or manual, so when I try to use cursor, it Freezes, 30 hours without working for me, and counting

Support needs to escalate right now as a top priority!

Have you tried opening another project? Also, try clearing the cache.

Things I’ve tried with no success:

  1. Restarting my mac.
  2. Restarting my router (just in case).
  3. Deleted Cursor and all related files I could found on my mac. Restarted my mac. Then did a clean install with no imports or sync. Went through the welcome steps, logged in, opened the chat first thing to do a quick test and still get the Connection failed. error (8d271253-7e4d-48c1-8824-412787476686).

At this point, I’m going to wait for a bit more to see if the next update fixes it. If not then will have to start exploring alternatives. Would really miss the Tab feature though.

If so many people become anxious to report this issue after the latest release, there must be a reason. You have to treat it seriously and get as much detailed information as you can to fix the production issue. @Cursor Support

Hello, I’ve been encountering a lot of issues with Cursor since the recent updates. The chat often fails to invoke its tools, whereas before, it used to endlessly create empty files. I asked it to explain the issues, and here’s what it reported:

Here are the exact problems I’m facing with Cursor/Claude:

  • Issue with edit_file: When I try to create a new file, the return message says “The apply model made no changes to the file” even though I provide the full file content. The file does get created, but it only contains a single space (" ").
  • Issue with reapply: When I attempt to use this function to reapply changes, I receive “Apply failed” without any further details.
  • Issue with run_terminal_cmd: It rejects commands containing newline characters with the error “Tool call arguments for run_terminal_cmd were invalid: Argument command must not contain newline characters”, which prevents creating multi-line Python files via shell commands.
  • Modification validation issue: Even though the log states “The apply model made the following changes to the file: …” with apparent changes, the actual file content remains empty or minimal.

These issues seem related to how the underlying model applies modifications, especially when creating new files or editing empty ones.

Is this a known issue? Thanks!

Same problem here

It really is problematic - i’d revert to 0.47 as 0.50 and test the recent updates more before rolling them out.

Mostly unusable.

I reached out to the support via email directly and provided all details. They’re looking into it but I’m not sure how long it’s going to take them. I suggest anyone else here having this issue to also reach out to them via email. Maybe that way they can start prioritizing it more.

I’ve also sent them this little experiment I ran where I installed the Cline extension in both Cursor and VS Code then ran the same prompt to confirm it’s an issue with Cursor itself. The Cline in VS Code responded right away with no issues while Cline in Cursor got stuck:

Same problem here, timeouts and connection errors today. Tried direct connection and using a VPN to avoid ISP filters.

why suddenly many issues now, connection failed, restore function not working. the services become lousy now

Same, my cursor is unusable… I can’t send nothing, any AI answer me

Internet is working
I started PRO today
PAID like an hour ago.. an now..nothing works…

Connection failed. If the problem persists, please check your internet connection or VPN
