Currently if im not using cursor pro, i cant connect my API, suppose i wanted to use anthropic APi of me own, but cursor is not letting me add the api if not pro. now if i take pro i get 20 dollars usage based credit which i dont need at all since i have credit on my anthropic api. Did anyone face this issue? does this mean i have to take the pro anyway even if i dont need it at all.
This is frustrating cause i cant depend on their usage based api because i need anthropic api to run claude code also. Any pro tip to solve this issue?
Cursor and Pro plan have much more than just a simple API integration to offer which is why a Pro plan is required when using Agent with custom API keys.
A few reasons which explain more:
Cursor features do take time to program and contribute to cost.
Chat related features are not just the IDE but also on our backend servers that processes requests, handles API keys securely, and more.
Tool integration and usage depend on features we added to our backend and IDE.
Additional features like indexing, tab, … some of which you may be using without realizing and which are using Cursor servers plus therefore contribute to cost.
You still get to use more than $20 worth of AI models from any integrated provider.
