Cursor update/restart on macOS collapses windows from multiple Spaces onto one Space instead of restoring their previous layout

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When Cursor updates and restarts, windows that were previously arranged across different macOS Spaces (virtual desktops) are reopened on a single Space. I then have to manually move each window back to its original Space every time this happens.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open multiple Cursor windows.
  2. Place each window on different macOS Spaces (and optionally different monitors).
  3. Let Cursor update and restart.
  4. After restart, check window placement.
  5. Observe that all windows are reopened on a single Space instead of their original Spaces.

Expected Behavior

Cursor should restore each window to the same Space/desktop (and monitor, if possible) where it was before update/restart.

Operating System

MacOS

Version Information

Cursor IDE version: 2.6.20
macOS version: 26.3.1
Chip: Apple Silicon
Monitors: Bug happens on machine with 2 monitors, and on a laptop
Displays have separate Spaces: ON
Stage Manager: OFF

For AI issues: which model did you use?

N/A (not an AI model issue)

For AI issues: add Request ID with privacy disabled

N/A (not an AI request issue)

Additional Information

This happens repeatedly after updates and disrupts workflow significantly because I rely on separate Spaces for different tasks. Even if exact Space IDs cannot always be restored, preserving prior multi-window layout or prompting to restore layout would help.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Thanks for the report, @drbenvincent!

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of Electron-based apps (electron/electron #37494), so it is not simple to address at the moment.
