I utilize custom modes to refine task and rule delegation. I have actually great success with rule delegation in combination with a custom mode, but they are a fuss to use in the current UX. Currently you are limited to only 6 custom modes, and the only way to update the instructions is within the tiny, tiny, tiny custom mode edit window through the advanced settings.

Ideally, like rules, I would like to see a modes directory within ./cursor, much like copilots mode.chatmode.md pattern, for easy of use of modifying instructions, and configuring toolsets. This would also make sharing amoung teams much easier.

+1 I’ve been waiting for this to come.

Is the problem that there is a max limit to the number of custom modes that can be added? I know semi-recently they increased that max by 2. I would also like to see there be no max limit there, I have several (I treat them as skills) and keep having to delete/create when switching
