Feature Request: A Standalone "Tab Completions" Plugin! (I'd gladly pay for this)

Feature request for product/service

Describe the request

Hey Cursor Team & Community!

First off, just wanted to say I’m a huge fan of Cursor. The “Tab Completions” feature, in particular, is an absolute game-changer for my workflow. It’s so intuitive and genuinely feels like it’s reading my mind sometimes. Honestly, it’s the main reason I use the editor.

This got me thinking, and I wanted to float an idea to see what you all think. What if the “Tab Completions” feature could be unbundled and offered as a standalone plugin for other editors?

I know I’m not the only one who has a preferred editor that they’re super comfortable with, but I find myself constantly missing Cursor’s tab completion when I’m not using it. I’d absolutely love to be able to integrate that specific feature into my daily driver editor.

Here’s a thought on how it could work: you could offer a separate subscription plan just for the “Tab Completions” plugin. Personally, I’d be more than happy to pay $10 a month for this. It would be an instant subscribe for me!

Even with the current pricing, the ability to use a “Tab Completions” plugin with the cursor-cli would be an amazing combination for those of us who work across different environments.

This isn’t a knock on the Cursor editor at all! It’s fantastic. This is more about how amazing and indispensable that one feature is, and how I’d love to see it everywhere.

Curious to hear what the team and the rest of the community think about this!

Cheers!

hi @zoubingwu and thank you for sharing your joy of using Tab for completions.

While we will continue to improve Tab performance and experience it may not be as useful outside of Cursor since it relies on a lot of our builtin tools.

I’d also prefer a way to get cursor tab functionality in other IDEs. Similar to how supermaven has various plugins.

Cursor tab completion is really miles ahead of everything else I’ve used. Even if cursor created an api around this without developing the extensions, you’d get lots of traction as developers would create the plugins or integrations for their favorite editors.

I would happily pay the regular subscription to use that along with cursor cli
