Feature Request: Allow Manual or Programmatic Setting of Chat Tab Titles

Hi Cursor Team,

I’d love the ability to manually set or override the chat tab title in Cursor AI chats. Currently, the tab title is auto-generated from the first message, but for my workflow, it would be extremely helpful to:

  • Set a custom title for each chat (e.g., “Session: Feature f-00008 - Playlist Sharing”)

  • Update the title as the session evolves

  • Optionally, allow the AI or a rule/memory to set the title programmatically

Why this matters:

  • Makes it easier to organize and find specific sessions

  • Improves context switching between multiple chats

  • Supports more structured workflows and documentation

Possible implementations:

  • Right-click tab > “Rename”

  • Command palette action: “Set Chat Tab Title”

  • API or config for advanced users

Thank you for considering this! Cursor is awesome and this would make it even better for power users.
