I’d love the ability to manually set or override the chat tab title in Cursor AI chats. Currently, the tab title is auto-generated from the first message, but for my workflow, it would be extremely helpful to:
Set a custom title for each chat (e.g., “Session: Feature f-00008 - Playlist Sharing”)
Update the title as the session evolves
Optionally, allow the AI or a rule/memory to set the title programmatically
Why this matters:
Makes it easier to organize and find specific sessions
Improves context switching between multiple chats
Supports more structured workflows and documentation
Possible implementations:
Right-click tab > “Rename”
Command palette action: “Set Chat Tab Title”
API or config for advanced users
Thank you for considering this! Cursor is awesome and this would make it even better for power users.
Just updooting this. Cursor chat really needs the ability to automatically update the chat title as the conversation evolves. Often times I will use a slash command to start the conversation, but that means all my conversations have the same titles now. I don’t think team Cursor thought of occurrences like this.
THIS. It already automatically names the chat based on the initial input. Should be easy to have it simply check the rules FIRST. This simple functionality is crucial for enterprise adoption. (JIRA)
