This is when cursor is sitting idle in the background. roughly 10 request per seconds to repo42.cursor.sh
with 1 KB upload and 52 KB downloads.
Restarting cursor would reduce the speed issue temporarily, but it would pickup again soon after usage

Yeah I’m getting this as well. Very strange stuff.
Telemtry data while sitting idle seems odd…
I checked and they’re definitely harvesting user data as my firewall is catching the app Cursor Helper (Plugin) send requests to https://amplitude.com/ while idle.
A little bit about Amplitude…
Amplitude’s website heavily emphasizes its role as a comprehensive data analytics platform designed to provide deep insights into customer behavior and product performance. Key aspects of the platform include:
Despite marketing itself as a tool to empower businesses, the website makes it clear that Amplitude is an aggressive data collection tool. The firewall-catching attempts to harvest data while idle, as mentioned in your response, indicate a deeper level of data surveillance, likely focused on maximizing customer profiling and insights for commercial gains. Amplitude’s seamless integration with marketing tools and its focus on “uniting data across teams” highlights how it can turn user behavior into a commodity.
In short, Amplitude sells itself as a growth solution through advanced data harvesting, but the hidden costs in terms of privacy and surveillance are notable.
And what about the Amplitude request?
Probably for tracking telemetry, it’s all explained in their privacy policy.
