Fundamental Floor Updating .txt files

There seems to be a critical floor in how Cursor makes updates to things like text files.

So some background. I create a .txt file that creates a sub-project implementation plan.

I then ask Cursor to make some specific changes to a plan .txt file like adding some extra detail to all the areas when a particular topic is discussed.

No matter what I do I can’t get cursor to NOT delete unrelated critical content in the file, as part of the update process!

If it is a purely text paragraph document then there does not seem to be a problem.

The problem seems to become unfixable when the .txt file in question has ordered numbered lists. If Cursor needs to add or modify a numbered point in the middle of a list. It refuses point blank to add a new item mid list and re-number the rest of the list. It just adds a new point 2, and deletes the old point 2, regardless of whether the old point 2 logically needed deleting!

Maybe there is a way round it, and if anyone has figured this out, I would love to know how. But all my attempts have failed spectacularly, and Cursor acknowledges that it wanted to delete critical unrelated content as part of its update, does its meaningless apology, and retries with exactly the same outcome!!

It actually just goes to show that you cannot trust anything, and i mean anything that Cursor says in its responses! Whether it intends to or not, it lies, manipulates and misleads if it suits.

How any business could rely on AI responses to represent it, I do not know!
