It’s the AI vibe coding assistant I wished for <3
This sounds great, can you share more how you use it and what worked well for you? There are lots of people interested in finding a good way to use Gemini 2.5 Pro
What version Cursor are you on? Its unusable on 0.50.3 for me - I literally cant get it to do anything?
It might not be an issue with the version as I am also on 0.50.3. I noticed that Google changed Gemini behavior several times through adjustments so I had to adjust my prompting approach and rules a bit to counteract the new behavior
No I mean my cursor wont even send requests half the time and when it does the tools dont apply changes to the files
Sending requests might be a separate issue and also the tools applying changes. Its known that Gemini has certain issues and the Cursor team has reported those to Google to fix, some have been fixed, but they also do not occur for everyone.
Lets keep this topic on how it works best and please file a separate Bug report for your issue or use any already existing bug report to add your issue there if related.
This would help keeping the threads on topic.
Yes but if its working for some people I want to know that they are on the same versions as me seeing as there has been next to no information from Cursor about this despite raising multiple bug reports and contacting them directly.
Yes thats why i mentioned the version.
Its best to not spread issues over multiple posts. From what I see the Cursor team is quite active every day in the forum. Multiple posts and similar ways make it harder for them to address as many issues instead of having to re-read them.
0.50.1 atm.
Need to setup your billing in google cloud console
Refactoring my whole app overnight V1 → V2. Practically flawlessly delivering all my features from scratch, including database
Good to hear that is working so well. Any specific parts you added to your prompts or rules that made it work so well?
Using it mostly in Manual/Ask/Custom Mode
Attaching Codebase
Attaching Folder structure (Beta feature)
Only thing in Manual mode it can ■■■■ up your code badly by trying to edit your code with it’s proposed “<potential_codebase_context>”. Once you catch him doing this you need to stop him immediately and switch to Ask mode.
I tried adding cursor rules, custom instructions all pertaining to this but he still does it, even after 2-3 responses into a new chat. Probably because the question was too vague or too little context was given for an immediate concise reply.
This is practically the only rule i’m using. no fancy MCPs or docs. Here is my current instruction:
“It’s crucially important you do not post relevant code snippets in your response, this causes our chat to be terminated.
Do not post <potential_codebase_context>”
Wow thats a good catch! Congrats!
Where is this documented? Im just using Cursors usage based pricing for now - I thought that would have handled it - Im not even using the API based stuff yet.
Starting to get some connection issues since starting this post. Probably business of the server:
Request failed with status code 500: [{
“error”: {
“code”: 500,
“message”: “An internal error has occurred. Please retry or report in Troubleshooting guide | Gemini API | Google AI for Developers”,
“status”: “INTERNAL”
}
}
]
Not anywhere I know. I remember from enabling pro 2.5 earlier via manual edit. Only back then it was freely available as experimental preview. Now it’s instantly tied to costs.
So to use it: add it manually to the list and add personal API Key
Has been worth every cent. Its slow in accounting though so I cruised it a bit too much at the start
Custom API Keys are explained in following Docs
But its not necessary if you have enabled usage based pricing - which for now is what I am fine with, what I am not fine with are repeated tool failures costing money that no one seems interested in refunding.
No its not necessary and I agree that it should not happen and needs to be fixed. On my side I can at the moment not reproduce that case.
Can you create a more detailed bug report in its own thread with request ID so the Cursor Team can have a look at what goes wrong in that case?
Call me stunned, hot ■■■■, gemini just leap frogged everyone? Big time?
I keep getting rate limited on gemini api key, what’s the trick here? Gotta wait until I pass $250 ?
