Grok Bot 0.44.0 on macOS: computer unreachable, recovery fails with partial state

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Grok Bot cannot connect to its hosted computer on macOS. The startup screen says “Can’t Reach Grok Bot’s Computer” and mentions firewall/VPN/proxy and *.cursorvm.com. After fully quitting and reopening the app, the main interface loads, but the Bots sidebar still says “Can’t reach your computer”.

I then used Recover computer and retried the reset once. Both attempts failed with: “The reset couldn’t finish. Grok Bot’s computer may be in a partial state — retry to run the reset again.” The computer remains unavailable. Please inspect the Agent Computer on the backend and help recover it while preserving existing data where possible.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Grok Bot on macOS.
  2. Observe the computer connection error.
  3. Fully quit and reopen: the app shell loads, but the Bots sidebar reports the computer is unreachable.
  4. Click Recover computer.
  5. Observe Reset failed / possible partial state.
  6. Retry Reset once: the same failure occurs.

Expected Behavior

The hosted computer should reconnect and load my Bots. If recovery is needed, it should complete successfully rather than leave the computer unavailable.

Operating System

MacOS

For AI issues: which model did you use?

N/A — this is a hosted computer connection/recovery issue.

Additional Information

Network troubleshooting already performed:

  • Clash Verge with TUN enabled.
  • HTTPS requests through the local proxy reach the Cursor API (HTTP 200) and the documented cloud-computer test endpoint (HTTP 404 with a successful TLS connection). This verifies those endpoints are reachable, not that my actual hosted computer is healthy.
  • Tried the existing Japan proxy node and an alternative US node; switching nodes and retrying did not resolve the app error. Restored the original node.
  • Fully quit/reopened Grok Bot and tried Retry.
  • Stopped further resets after two failed recovery attempts.

This appears similar to Grok Bot Agent Computer stuck in partial state on Mac and iOS, but I cannot confirm the same root cause for my account. Please check the backend state.

The app also displayed a Pro/SuperGrok subscription prompt after reopening; I do not know whether that is related to the computer failure.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the detailed report.

I checked on our side. Under the account linked to your forum email, there’s no Grok Bot computer and no bots created, so there’s nothing to restore there. This usually means the app is logged into a different account. In Grok Bot, it’s often a separate identity via X or Grok.

To narrow it down, can you share a couple of things?

  1. What email does the app show: Grok Bot > Settings > Account. Copy the email from there.
  2. Does that account have Cursor Pro or a linked SuperGrok subscription? The Pro or SuperGrok prompt you saw after reopening looks like the screen for an account that doesn’t have active Grok Bot access.
  3. Quick test to rule out proxy issues: fully quit Grok Bot via the menu bar icon, turn off TUN mode in Clash Verge or connect your Mac to a phone hotspot, then open Grok Bot again and tell me if the Bots sidebar loads. If you have Grok Bot on iOS, does it show your bots there?

Once you send the email from the app, we can take the next steps.

Thanks for checking. I realized that my subscription has expired, and I currently have neither an active Cursor Pro plan nor an active SuperGrok subscription. In Grok Bot, Usage & Billing shows “No included usage available on your plan right now” and offers Upgrade to Pro / Get Access with Grok.

I also fully quit and reopened Grok Bot with Clash Verge TUN disabled. The Bots sidebar still showed “Can’t reach your computer.” The macOS system proxy remained enabled during this test, so this was not a completely proxy-free test. TUN has since been restored. I have not tested on iOS.

Could the expired subscription alone explain both the “Can’t Reach Grok Bot’s Computer” screen and the failed Recover/Reset attempts? Before renewing, could you confirm whether restoring an eligible subscription should resolve this, or whether there is a separate account/computer issue to investigate? If this is simply missing access, a clear subscription-required message instead of the firewall/recovery errors would help.

If you still need the account email shown in the app, please let me know how to share it privately. Thanks!
