Hey, thanks for the detailed report and screenshots. I can see the black screen on 0.30.0 and the first-run Create your first Bot screen on the older version.
First, the important part: your bots and chats are safe. We checked on our side and the cloud computer where they live is healthy and active. That’s why everything works on iPhone.
What’s happening is that the Mac app can’t open a direct connection to that cloud computer from your current network. Because of that, the latest version gets stuck on the loading screen, and the old version shows the first-run screen as if there are no bots. Recreating the computer won’t help since it’s fine. It’s also best to stay on the latest version since the old one isn’t supported.
Usually one of these helps:
Try a different network, for example share internet from your phone using a hotspot, then reopen Grok Bot.
If it loads on hotspot, switch DNS on your Mac to a public resolver: System Settings > Network > your connection > Details > DNS, add 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8, then try again on your normal network.
Let me know if either of these helped and who your ISP is. That’ll help us confirm what’s blocking the connection.
iPhone Grok Bot works on this account. The bots are still there: eMail inbox and Chief of Staff. I didn’t create a new bot on desktop, and I’m staying on the latest Mac app.
The latest Mac app is still stuck on the black screen with the white circle.
I tested both networks:
Same Wi-Fi as the iPhone: iPhone works, Mac does not
iPhone hotspot with mobile data: Mac still doesn’t open
VPN / Private Relay were off. Mac DNS is 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8.
From the Mac, us8.cursorvm.com resolves, port 443 connects, and HTTPS returns 404 from awselb, which looks expected. So the Mac can reach that host, but the app still can’t attach to the existing computer.
I can’t use the old desktop app either; it only shows the first-run “Create your first Bot” screen.
Thanks for testing this so thoroughly, it really helps narrow things down. You did exactly what we ask in cases like this: two different networks (including a mobile data hotspot), VPN and Private Relay turned off, and public DNS (1.1.1.1 / 8.8.8.8). If the Mac still gets stuck on a black screen after all that, it means it’s not your local setup and not a simple DNS issue.
A quick clarification about your test: seeing that *.cursorvm.com resolves, port 443 connects, and the load balancer returns 404 is expected. On its own, it doesn’t confirm the app was able to open its actual working channel to your cloud computer. So this test doesn’t rule out a connection issue.
Your bots and chats are safe. The cloud computer where they live is healthy and active, which is why iPhone works normally. No need to recreate it.
I can’t share an exact timeline, but I’ll post an update in the thread as soon as I have one.
One question to speed things up: can you confirm the exact desktop app version that’s showing the black screen right now (Grok_Bot_0.30.0?), and what country and ISP you’re currently on. Let me know if anything changes.
Can’t Reach Grok Bot’s Computer
A firewall, VPN, or proxy such as Zscaler may be blocking the connection
*.cursorvm.com
iPhone still works with the existing bots.
This same Mac already failed on home Wi-Fi and on iPhone hotspot.
VPN / Private Relay were off. us8.cursorvm.com resolves, port 443 connects, and HTTPS returns 404 from awselb.
So this does not look like a local firewall block. Can you Please further check the Mac client attach/session for this account if that is the case?
