I am impressed this just keeps on going on behalf of Cursor’s generosity.
I am at $99 on Pro+
I do not use “Auto”, so that’s all Composer, Anthropic, GPT, or Gemini
It makes me laugh at all the “Cursor is expensive” posts on reddit, where users are recommended to use another editor with API pricing… now THAT would be expensive
I’m on ultra and I spend easily $4k+ in a month but pay just $200
I pointed this out on the forum a few weeks back and cursor promptly hid the “free value” on the dashboard but left the units used for cache read/write in/out etc - so now I have to do a manual calc but yeah, insane how much you can get for free on auto.
I also pointed out that the auto model was almost 100% sonnet 4.5 (I had it self reporting the model before starting). Cursor also promptly fixed it so that it doesn’t report the model in auto mode - although there are ways to force it to still identify.
From the quality and consistency of output it’s likely all still sonnet 4.5 still. And my spot checks for the model confirm this is the case except when I’ve been going especially hard with auto mode and hit some invisible daily limit and then it starts to dumb the model down and produce rubbish - at that point I just clock off for the day as the dumber models are basically useless.
I consistently use my “Auto Unlimited (Yearly)” plan, as the free usage varies and is often too small to rely on. Since I am already paying for Auto, I hope “Composer” can be included in my unlimited subscription.
Pro+
This resets tomorrow, I’ll see if I can use Composer/Opus 4.5 heavily tonight and see how far it gets…
Edit: I got to $40.94 (so $110.94 in total) before it used my $1 buffer
What are those ways to tell? I’m interested to know
I eventually managed to get up to 165$ on the Pro plan
I can only assume those huge numbers are from auto ![]()
Auto’s usage is not counted in free usage part, only grok-code for now and all other paid models
Yes, that’s correct. I only use Auto. And 95% of the times it uses Sonnet 4.5 which does really, really well.
At rare times it uses GPT 5.1 (Codex) in front-end tasks
Great news, auto isn’t free anymore so none of this matters anymore, spread it before anyone loses a lot of money on the auto model…
Update: I got 200$ on the 70$ plan.
Joining the Ultra club.
But what are free credits based on? Does usage of “Auto” influence the outcome of credits grant?
Does usage of “Auto” influence the outcome of credits grant?
I have a feeling it does. I “only” get around $110 on the $70 plan, but never use auto. Whereas, I see much higher figures from others
Any update on how the free usage is calculated ?
You’ve used an extended renewal package, which is very expensive and not included in the $20 Pro package. Therefore, if you encounter this renewal option, you should create a new account. For your old account, wait until the end of the month before renewing the $20 Pro package.
