How to enable auto-update? (MacOS)

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

i get the update notification every few days, and its annoying to having to click it everytime and relaunch the ide.

is there a way Cursor can auto-update to latest version, so when I open it, its already updated?

i’ve had the “update mode: default”, but that doesnt seem to do it.

thanks!

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Hey, thanks for the report. The current behavior is expected: Cursor auto-downloads updates but requires you to confirm and restart to apply them. There’s no setting for fully silent auto-updates right now.

The “Update Mode: Default” setting controls which update channel you’re on (stable releases), but all updates still require manual confirmation before restarting.

However, from my observations, if the update is already downloaded and you restart Cursor, it will update automatically.
