Describe the Bug

Why does the cursor keep updating automatically? I’ve disabled automatic chromosome updates.

The new version has all sorts of issues. I rolled back to version 2.0.11 and it works fine. Why does it auto-update? It’s really shameless. There’s no way to turn off auto-updates.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. Cursor has an Update: Mode setting in Application settings CMD+,.

Try changing it from “default” to:

  • “none” - fully disables auto-updates
  • “manual” - shows a new version notification but won’t update automatically

Change the dropdown value and restart Cursor. After that, roll back to 2.0.11 and check if it still auto-updates.

Let me know if this helped.

Thanks. I’m currently using version 2.0.11, and as long as I don’t restart Cursor, it won’t update even after downloading. Version 2.0.11 also supports reopening chat histories, with excellent connection stability. Sonnet 4.5 functions normally with this version. The new version fails to reopen chat histories and even struggles to complete basic tasks. I believe this stems from a WebSocket connection issue. After reviewing numerous posts and resources, Cursor’s coding is indeed user-friendly—but only in version 2.0.11. These frequent updates prevent normal usage. I hope your team conducts more thorough testing before releasing updates and avoids such rapid release cycles. Many features remain unused by us.
