Can we get an option for preventing auto-updates?

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Everytime there is a new update with Cursor, I’m experiencing at least one bug.
Last time I was forced to update after restarting Cursor, my chats were loading infinitely. I did find some solutions to this on Forum, but decided to work on new chats since I had no time to fix the issue.
This time my Cursor opened normally, but it automatically switched to Agent mode, which caused my Cursor desktop application to ‘not respond’ forever. I had to reinstall 2.1.50 in order to actually start working again.
Now I am traumatized with every updates Cursor forces me to have. I need this feature in order to actually continue paying $200 + alpha and work on Cursor.

Steps to Reproduce

Probably updating my Cursor application will cause the issue again.

Expected Behavior

Actually work instead of stopping.

Grok Code

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Sorry to hear this. The team is working on improving them.

There’s an Update: Mode setting in Application settings (CMD/CTRL + ,) that lets you control updates. Change it from “default” to either “none” (fully disables auto-updates) or “manual” (shows notification but won’t update automatically). After changing this, restart Cursor.

Regarding the Agent mode auto-switching causing freezes on Windows - thanks for the report, I’ll pass it to the team.
