How to open the IDE

A couple of days ago, I accidently hit a button removing the agent from the IDE, it took several hours to get it back to working, weeks before it took over 30 hours total.

I left my computer on for days, rightfully so, because when I turned it off and then back on and reopened cursor, it now is permanently in Agent mode.

I have tried everything again today, and nothing is working, I can no longer access the IDE I am paying for.

Since customer support is non existent, I am reaching out here in hopes of other paying customers might be able to help me out.

How do I open the IDE once it gets stuck in Agent only mode?

** GOT ANSWERED

for anyone else having this problem, if you get stuck where when you open cursor and it goes to agent mode and you can no longer access the IDE:

Ctrl + Shift + N

is the solution, after over 30 hours of debugging, a simple solution has been found.

hopefully one day they fix this crazy bug, they acknowledge it is a bug that I found.

and when I asked for credit, because I spent over 18 hours using their AI to fix their bug, they told me ‘No’.

and yes, I still love their product, but it makes me feel much more like a crack addict then a engineer.

Glad you found a working fix. Ctrl+Shift+N or File > Open IDE really does bring you back to the classic editor window. A couple tips so it doesn’t get stuck again:

  • After you open the IDE, close the Agents Window and quit Cursor from the IDE window. Then next launch should restore the IDE, not the agent.
  • Backup option: launching from Terminal with cursor -n <folder> always forces the classic IDE.

The behavior you’re seeing, where the restored Agents Window opens again even with the startup setting, is a known bug on our side and it’s already being tracked. I can’t share an exact ETA yet, but I’ll update you as soon as I have news. The same topic is being discussed here: Cursor Always Starts in Agent Mode Instead of IDE Mode

Let me know if it gets stuck again.
