I loved the previous workflow where Ctrl+L would open a new chat with ask being the default mode. Now, it opens my last sent message, which is often totally irrelevant to the task I’m currently prompting about and it also does so in agent mode, which seems to only be supported by Cursor’s custom models (I use API keys instead).

Hey, try using the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + L.
This seems to do what i want it to, thanks. I also changed the aichat.insertselectionintochat from “Ctrl + Shift + L” to “Ctrl + L” to get back the old functionality (also seems to automatically select “Ask” mode which is perfect). It’s back to what I like again now. Thank you!
I want to stress to the developers that this is the workflow that I and many others prefer, and unless a new feature is immediately available with my own API keys, I don’t want it as an automatic default with no easy way to switch back.
