How to revert to old Ctrl+L functionality (again)?

I previously posted about this here, but since then a new update has changed Ctrl+L again… Now, hitting Ctrl+L Brings up my previous chat, and also uses the old context from that chat, meaning if i use ask mode on one file, then open another file and hit Ctrl+L , it will use the context from that old file to answer my question, which is highly unintuitive… It also sometimes opens in ask mode and sometimes in agent mode, which is also inconsistent and annoying.

What I want from cursor is that when I hit Ctrl+L,

  1. A new AI chat window is opened,
  2. The chat is blank, i.e my old chat is NOT loaded,
  3. The mode is in “ask” by default,
  4. It uses the actual file i have open as context, not the context from the previous chat session

This used to be how it worked; it was so simple and worked so well. Now using cursor is so inconsistent and tedious. If I manage to get this working again only for it to break because of a new update promoting your new agent mode, I can’t keep using cursor. Sorry.

Any tips on how to get this functionality back is appreciated! <3

Just updated Cursor from 0.4X.X to 1.0.0
The new behavior is indeed unintuitive and frustrating. I don’t want Cursor to just keep adding to context every time I press Ctrl+L. Is there a way to revert back to the old behavior?

Alternatively - is there a way to just quickly clear the context? So far I don’t even see any way to do that. Any shortcuts, anything?

I found this setting, which seems like it should bring back the old behavior. And it does. But it has an arbitrary timeout. Before I was working in Cursor it was keeping the old context. In the time it took me to log onto the forum and write my previous message, it’s decided that it’s time to show me a clear context on Ctrl+L.

Is there a way for me to just set that timeout to 0 - to make it instantly clear the context, whenever I do Ctrl+L again?
