I thought GPT-5 was free why it costs?

Just for an Hi it costs $0.04

good question, it says free @condor

During the promotional release period, initial GPT-5 usage does not count towards usage limits.

Wondering why the Free week usage of GPT5 is in fact deducted from our Pro “Included Requests Used”

hi @gprethesh @liquefy thank you both. GPT-5 does not cost during launch week, its listed for transparency so you can see the usage.

I am still on 500 requests per month plan till september and GPT 5 is adding +1 request for me for each interaction. So …not really free this week?

Hey, we’re checking this at the moment, but GPT-5 should not have any charge, both to $ usage or to legacy requests at the moment.

@Someguy the Included Requests Usage shows it for reference so you can see it, but it is not charged during launch week.

To clarify the wording, does this mean there is a limit on the amount of free usage you get with GPT-5 during the launch week? If you exceed this limit, will you need to pay, or is the free usage truly unlimited for the entire launch week?

@KamilTheDev yes we offer a generous limit for testing different GPT-5 models though the precise amount is not disclosed. You will see an message once the limit is reached.

When i’ve sent my first message, it added +1 request to my 500 requests monthly limit. I am on legacy plan until september when yearly subscription ends.

When i sent my 2nd message, again +1 request to my 500 requests was added.

And so on… for each message! I am just saying it is impossible that i would exceed a limit on GPT 5, since it started adding up each request right from the beginning (starting with first message).

I guess it is bug on your side or something. Please investigate and let us know when it is fixed.

Thanks Dan, but it really counts the GPT5 requests and adds it on top, please check and rectify to our included requests.

I must say GPT5 is best model so far (Flutter)

is it possible that this generous limit you are talking about maybe hit after half a day of half-hearted coding? Or will this be reset tomorrow or anytime soon again? I somehow was expecting a week of coding as it was advertised as “free” during launch week. we still have launch week but it seems like it will not be free anymore by the end of the day I started using it.

If this is true, you guys seriously have to finally start working on your wording and how you market offers without misleading customers.

I think I will start a new restaurant concept: all you can eat, but if I think you ate too much, I will stop you from eating three spoons before I think it is too much. But be certain that it will be advertised as all-you-can-eat.

The free usage is more than enough for testing the model with its various variants to properly assess its capabilities. It wasn’t marketed as unlimited and it is not charged = free. Token usage depends on the task, context and model.

From your screenshot it was projected that you would reach GPT-5 limit well after launch week. Has something changed?

It was marketed as “Free during launch week”.

Like, come on, at least put a big fat asterisk to this statement.

and yes, you are right. I was just blind. I am not used to US dates and my brain was not expecting irrelevant information to be shown to me.

but since I got this message and my usage is projected to end by the end of the month: can I plan my week based on this projection? given this information, I should be able to code a full week without issues. btw: when did the free week start? yesterday?

Yes it looks like you should be able to test it until we switch to regular API pricing, if your consumption stays the same. This is something not easy to predict from our side as its token usage related.

It started yesterday.
