Hi, bro.
I have a problem now.
Whenever I press Ctrl-K to call AI on the IDE side, I get Connection faild and cannot connect to chat.
When I open the chat in the right pane with Ctrl-L, I get a decent response.
This bug seems to have been repeated many times in the past, is there any permanent solution?
Connection failed.
Version: 0.38.1
i am getting this error constantly as well. i just signed up and can barely use Cursor with this issue. everything i do (regular Chat / chat + codebase) returns Connection Failed. the only thing that works is no-context chat but then it just destroys my codebase.
edit: just kidding i can’t even use no-context chat now. everything is timing out constantly. i tried buying Claude API credits to see if it would work better that way but it’s not working at all.
Out of interest, are you guys using Starlink or something like it?
Sometimes I cannot connect to npm when I am using Starlink (which I think issues shared IP addresses), but when I connect to an actual VPN it lets me run npm installs etc.
I get similar behaviour with some Azure connectivity as well.
This might not have anything to do with the actual issue, but just thought I would ask in case it is related.
Possibly related behaviour also mentioned here:
no, i am using a normal Comcast connection at home.
for a goof i decided to try and actually use a VPN (connected to Switzerland now) and for some reason now everything is working fine. I still can’t use it without VPN for some reason so that’s weird.
I don’t use Starlink, I connect through my company’s fiber optic line.
Well, I do use Wi-Fi.
It still hasn’t been fixed.
I still can’t connect even when I open AI chat with Ctrl-K.
AI chat via Ctrl-L is responding correctly.

I understand the situation.
It seems that under some proxies (details are not yet known), the AI chat window opened with Ctrl-K does not work properly.
When I tried to use a different network that does not go through a proxy, it worked as expected.
As far as I can see, version control seems to be inappropriate, as some versions have been degraded and the same symptoms appear.
If possible, we would like you to maintain the source code that worked properly in past versions.

Add one more person to the list - I just get these “Connection failed” errors after hours of no issues and no change in wifi quality.
@northern7 @Tariki try using a vpn when you connect to cursor. im using mullvad vpn and cursor works without issues now.
Hey man, thanks for the suggestion, but I’m already paying for a Pro Cursor subscription, I wouldn’t really want to pay another one.
oh yea for sure it should work out of the box right away, its quite frustrating. i was thinking if you had a vpn already as a lot of people do then you could try that. hopefully they fix this soon i dont want to keep using my vpn to code either haha
Hi this seems to be the same issue as here https://forum.cursor.com/t/connection-failed-on-ctrl-k-for-latest-version.
facing same problem @Jakob
