Import VSC settings

Hello

I installed cursor on my windows PC a minute ago. After setting up the app i wanted to import my settings and extensions from VSC. Unfortunately the import funtionality as described in the documention and in lots of online articles isn’t available anymore.

Any idea?

Hey, thanks for the report. The import option hasn’t disappeared, it just moved. Our docs still point to the old place (General > Account), so you couldn’t find it. We’ll fix the docs.

To import settings and keybindings:

  • Open Cursor Settings with Ctrl+, or File > Settings.
  • On the left, select General.
  • Scroll to the Preferences section and find Import Settings from VS Code.
  • Click Import, then Confirm.

One note: this button imports settings and keybindings, but not extensions. That’s expected right now. To import extensions too:

  • Open the regular editor window with Ctrl+Shift+N or File > Open IDE.
  • In that window, press Ctrl+Shift+P, type Import VS Code Extensions and Settings, then run it.

That will do a full import including extensions. It reads data from your local VS Code install at %APPDATA%\Code\User and %USERPROFILE%\.vscode\extensions, so VS Code needs to be installed on the same PC. Also, Cursor installs extensions from the Open VSX registry, not the VS Code Marketplace, so some Microsoft extensions might not import or might work a bit differently.

As an alternative, you can move everything using Profiles: in VS Code run Export Profile, then in Cursor run Import Profile via Ctrl+Shift+P > Preferences: Open Profiles (UI).

If anything on your screen doesn’t match these steps, send a screenshot and I’ll take a look.
