Hello.
I’d like to suggest an improvement regarding visual feedback when working with Side Chat in Cursor.
Problem
In the main chat, statuses work well: the chat list clearly shows when a chat is “in progress” (active), has “unread” messages, or is “awaiting action” from the user.
However, Side Chat lacks this functionality. When I have multiple Side Chats open, there are no visual indicators showing which one needs attention, which has unread messages, or which is currently processing.
This creates friction: I switch between tasks and may miss a response in Side Chat or forget that an action is awaiting me.
What’s Missing
I’d like to see in the Cursor interface:
- Statuses for Side Chat — similar to the main chat: “in progress”, “unread”, “awaiting action”.
- Visual linkage with the main chat — if at least one Side Chat is active, the main chat should reflect this (e.g., a status like “Side Chat active” or simply “active”).
- Indication in the main chat — so it’s visible that its Side Chats have unread messages or are awaiting user action.
Why This Matters
Currently, when working with multiple Side Chats, there’s no clear feedback on the state of each one. This forces me to manually switch and check, increasing cognitive load and distracting from the main task.
This improvement would allow me to:
- Quickly see which Side Chat needs attention.
- Avoid missing responses or forgetting about active tasks.
- Manage multiple parallel conversations more effectively.
I’d appreciate it if the community supports this idea and the developers consider implementing it.
