International Students Losing Verified Discounts – What's Happening, Cursor?

Hi Cursor Team and fellow users,

I’m speaking up because something unfair has happened — not just to me, but to what seems like many verified students around the world.

I’m a legitimate student at the University of Economics and Finance (UEF) in Vietnam. I verified my student status through SheerID, using my official school email. A few days ago, I received a cold, generic email from Cursor stating my student discount was revoked due to “fraudulent activity.”

This was:

  • Without any proof.
  • Without any chance to appeal.
  • Despite having a valid ID and following all the steps.

I’ve since contacted SheerID and provided them with everything again for independent review. They’re looking into it now. But here’s the bigger concern:

:speech_balloon: I’ve seen others — especially students from non-Western countries — report the same silent revocation.

Is there a policy shift no one was told about?
Is SheerID no longer being trusted?
Is there a bias against accounts from certain regions?

I’m not here to rant. I’m here to ask for:

  • Transparency.
  • Due process.
  • Respect for verified users.

If you’re another student who lost your verified discount — please speak up. We deserve to know what changed, and we deserve to be treated as more than silent statistics in a fraud-detection algorithm.

I’m happy to provide my student ID directly to the Cursor team if requested. But I will not stay silent if this continues to affect others unfairly.
