Is SuperGrok Heavy now the better Cursor Ultra deal?

The SuperGrok Heavy bundle has changed the value of paying for Cursor Ultra directly. Wanted to put the incentive structure on the table and hear how other people are thinking about renewal.

1. Heavy now includes Ultra, and it is not a one-month promo.

Docs: SuperGrok Heavy subscribers get Cursor Ultra at $0, and it stays active at no charge as long as Heavy remains active on renewal.

Link SuperGrok for Grok Bot | Cursor Docs

Staff also confirmed the banner is the real offer, not a one-month courtesy:

Free Cursor Ultra with Grok

2. Existing Ultra does not stack.

Same docs: if you are already on Ultra, linking SuperGrok Heavy does not add extra Ultra access. So a paying Ultra user cannot combine both plans into more usage. The bundle only pays off if you are not already paying for Ultra.

3. On price, Heavy looks like the better individual buy.

  • SuperGrok Heavy (~$300): Heavy + Cursor Ultra (~$200) → about $500 of product for $300
  • Standalone Ultra: full Ultra price, no extra credits, no weekly Cursor-credit reset (weekly reset is Grok Bot, not Cursor credits)
  • Buy both: you pay twice for the same Ultra access

If that reading is right, the rational move for an individual is to stop renewing Ultra and put the extra ~$100 into Heavy.

4. Cursor Grok and Grok Build are not the same product.

Cursor’s Grok 4.5 / 4.6 has tighter cyber-misuse guardrails than Grok Build. Same model family, different policy. For security research / CTF-style work, Build is often the one that still runs. That used to be a reason to stay on Ultra. It is harder to treat it that way now.

5. Loyalty currently points the wrong way.

Long-term Ultra users get no extra credits, no better reset, and no individual exception path. New Heavy subscribers get Ultra included. The packaging rewards switching, not staying.

Discussion questions

  • If you already pay for Ultra, what is the remaining reason to renew it instead of switching to SuperGrok Heavy?
  • Is Ultra still supposed to be the top individual Cursor plan, or is Heavy now the plan Cursor wants individuals on?
  • If Ultra still has a real advantage — extra usage, Ultra-only features, a retention credit, something else — what is it, specifically?
  • Are other existing Ultra users planning to renew, cancel, or wait for a clearer answer?

If the honest product answer is that Heavy is now the better individual plan, that should be said plainly. If Ultra still has a renewal case, it needs to be spelled out on paper, not as “usage is equivalent.” Right now the offer tells existing Ultra customers that leaving is the better deal.

Hey there!

Just wanted to offer a little of my perspective.

Heavy is a SuperGrok plan with its own product in it. Ultra is still the way to buy Cursor Ultra on its own. If you want the rest of Heavy, the bundle is a better combined buy. If you do not, paying for Heavy just to get Ultra is not a better deal, it is a different product!

If somebody only wants Cursor Ultra, renewing Ultra is still the direct way to get it. If they also value the features in SuperGrok Heavy, then SuperGrok Heavy is a great choice and they don’t need to maintain two plans.

Keep in mind, we are only a few days into being a combined company (:rocket:)! Plan packaging is something we will continue to look at.

As an annual user, I am very much looking forward to any benefits or preferential policies you may have for existing users in the future. Currently, I see many people in the community with Grok Heavy + Cursor Ultra for $990 a year. This makes me, who bought the annual Cursor Ultra for $2000, very uncomfortable and sad.
I must admit that the merged Grok 4.6 is a very useful model, but in terms of Grok’s discounts, there is indeed a significant psychological gap.

I’m on annual Cursor Ultra ($200/mo, billed yearly so effectively $160/mo with discount).

Generally when you purchase a “flagship” tier from these companies you expect the most premium experience/usage/etc. Not only that, but if you front an entire annual prepaid amount you are essentially saying “yo, I believe you’re the best in this space and I’m going to commit to your product.” Companies typically reciprocate by offering a discount, which in reality, promoting/marketing that discount is usually the actual reason people opt for the annual in the first place (myself included). Point being, that discount is the “reward” for paying a year upfront.

SuperGrok Heavy is $300/mo. It unlocks Cursor Ultra at $0 for as long as Heavy stays active. Cursor’s own docs confirm it: qualifying Heavy customers get “free Cursor Ultra created at $0,” and if you’re already on Ultra, linking Heavy adds nothing.

Prepaid Ultra does not convert to any variant of SuperGrok, nor does it allow me to use Grok Build (which is an open source harness, mind you).

And before anyone says “Heavy costs nearly double, of course it gets more”: compare annual to annual. Heavy is $3,000/year. Roughly $490 of that is X Premium+ bundled in, which I’d happily go without. Strip that out and the “AI-only” difference between annual Heavy and my annual Ultra is about $49/mo***. For that $49, Heavy users get everything in SuperGrok Plus, Grok Build, top limits, and my entire $1,920/year plan thrown in at $0.

Grok Bot is already included with Ultra, good deal. But that shouldn’t be the thing I’m being told (via support) is why Ultra users should feel made whole after this acquisition (which formally closed August 14). It legitimately feels like a slap in the face. This is not a brand-new xAI app they tossed in to make Ultra even. FYI, this was internally “Sand.” The Information* reported an Aug 8 all-hands: new products would wear Grok, and Sand could be renamed Grok Bot. Digital Today** says Cursor staff had Sand from late June.

I’d be cool with most of this if we ALSO had access to utilize our subscription with Grok Build… the supposed “best way” to use 4.6 per Elon’s tweet.

If you prepaid Ultra and then watched Heavy give the same plan away, you are in the same boat.

The main issue is the fact that Grok 4.6 (and probably future models), built jointly and promoted as first party within Cursor, was also publicly and officially PROMOTED to be better with ONLY Grok Build (a coding product of SuperGrok), and is something that we do not have access to use with our usage. In the same promotion, it was officially stated that user experience is far worse outside the Grok Build harness.

Why would there be expectation for Ultra users, who care about coding tools and usage, to be okay with this?

Grok Bot, renamed from Sand that you guys were working on way back in June, is expected to be our token of appreciation? When on the flip side (the winning side of the acquisition) they get it all?

Ultra users who were locked in annually got it even worse - we don’t have the ability to get out of this arrangement to switch sides. Because our prepaid value was locked into your valuation at time of acquisition? What truly is the detriment of at least allowing us to switch and pay the pro-rated increase portion of a Grok Heavy lock in?

If Grok Build is open source - what is stopping Cursor from implementing/enhancing it’s CLI?

I just purchased SuperGrok Heavy today specifically with the understanding that Cursor Ultra was included.

My SuperGrok Heavy account linked successfully, but Cursor still shows my plan as Free. I contacted Cursor support and the AI support assistant, Sam, is telling me that new SuperGrok Heavy links no longer include Cursor Ultra and only provide Grok Bot access.

Sam specifically told me:

“Older forum replies and help copy that describe free Ultra reflect an earlier link model. New SuperGrok Heavy links grant Grok Bot usage only.”

This seems to directly contradict what is being stated in this thread. As recently as August 18, Cursor staff said that if someone values SuperGrok Heavy, it is a combined purchase and they “don’t need to maintain two plans.”

I repeatedly asked Sam to escalate my ticket to a human because of this contradiction. Sam then explicitly refused, saying:

“A teammate would reach the same conclusion on activation, so I am not escalating this for Ultra provisioning.”

My ticket is T-F3681.

Can an actual Cursor staff member please clarify what is going on here?

Did Cursor discontinue the free Cursor Ultra benefit for new SuperGrok Heavy subscribers within the last few days?

If so, when exactly did that change take effect, and where was that change announced?

If not, can someone please look at my account and ticket? I paid $300 for SuperGrok Heavy based in part on the advertised Cursor Ultra inclusion, successfully linked the accounts, and now Cursor’s AI support system is telling me that the benefit no longer exists while refusing to escalate me to a human.

I would really appreciate an official clarification from Cursor staff.

I wanted to know basically the same. They claimed that the “promotion” has ended, but it was never shown as a limited offer. I was in the process of upgrading to Supergrok Heavy when I noticed that there was no possibility to link to Cursor Ultra any longer. I’m quite confused, why does the Cursor team add an own knowledge base site which explains that as long as Grok account is linked we will keep Cursor Ultra and then suddenly without any warning you turn it off !?!?

Maybe you should start a new post, and I don’t know why the title of my post was changed. The original title of this post was to question the Cursor team about why they treat old users this way.
I’m also not sure what they’re actually doing recently. They may have sensed the anger from us annual Cursor users, so they removed this kind of thing. Maybe it was Musk who did it, I’m not sure, but I suggest you start a new post.

@cyborg31

I’ve done exactly that now: SuperGrok Heavy - Cursor Ultra for free - Discount ended

But they pushed it to accounts & billing, would have loved to see a discussion started and not push that one to the side.

Yeah they did the same to mine. This is infuriating.

@Colin @deanrie

I bought SuperGrok Heavy based on what deanrie confirmed on 15 Aug in Free Cursor Ultra with Grok : Cursor Ultra stays active as long as SuperGrok Heavy is active, and the one-month help-page wording was outdated.

Colin also wrote in this thread on 18 Aug that Heavy subscribers “don’t need to maintain two plans.”

Here is what actually happened after I linked:

  • Individual SuperGrok Heavy is active
  • The Grok-to-Cursor link succeeded
  • Grok Bot works
  • Cursor is still Free. Ultra was never provisioned

Support ticket T-F4069. Every reply is from Sam, the AI Support Assistant, about two minutes after I write. Sam now says a Heavy link “does not create or provision Ultra” and that Ultra is a separate paid plan. That does not match deanrie’s posts, does not match Colin, and does not match the help copy that was still live when people bought. Sam has not addressed those staff posts, has not escalated to a human on the accounts team, and has not given an effective date for any policy change.

That is not acceptable. Staff said one thing in public. The product is doing the opposite, and the AI support layer is blocking a human from even looking at the account.

I need a staff answer on the record:

  1. Is the banner / the 15 Aug statement still the offer for individual SuperGrok Heavy, or did it change? If it changed, on what date, and where was that announced?
  2. Please have accounts review T-F4069 and either provision Ultra at $0 while Heavy stays active, or explain in writing why this account is treated differently.

I followed the banner and staff posts, paid, linked, and did not get the Cursor Ultra side of the bundle. I want this handled, not another copy-paste from Sam.

The original thread Free Cursor Ultra with Grok is now locked, so I am posting here.

@deanrie following up on your 15 Aug confirmation in Free Cursor Ultra with Grok (posts #6 and #9): the banner is the correct info, Cursor Ultra stays active as long as SuperGrok Heavy is active.

I bought individual SuperGrok Heavy on that basis, then linked Grok to Cursor. Same identity:

  • Cursor / Gmail: [email protected]
  • Grok / X: Rynok90
  • Heavy: active, individual
  • Link: succeeded. Grok Bot works.

Cursor still shows: Free (with SuperGrok Heavy). Ultra was never provisioned. cursor.com/agents does not show Ultra.

Support ticket T-F4140. Both replies were from Sam (Grok Bot AI Support Assistant), about a minute after each email. Sam now says a new Heavy link only grants Grok Bot, does not provision Ultra, and Free (with SuperGrok Heavy) is the expected state. Sam also says the forum notes about Ultra staying with Heavy apply only if Ultra was already on the account from an earlier link path. They cannot provision Ultra; they offered Ultra as a separate paid plan.

I will not pay for Cursor Ultra separately. I subscribed to Heavy because staff here said Ultra was included at $0 while Heavy stays active.

Please have a human on accounts look at this:

  1. Provision Cursor Ultra at $0 on this already-linked account, or
  2. Confirm in writing that the staff-confirmed bundle was withdrawn for new Heavy links, with an effective date.

Grok Bot working is not the missing piece. Ultra never turning on is.

Same situation here, and I would like to ask the same question as Lo_Gary and Manuel_Mercado.

I bought individual SuperGrok Heavy on August 17 - two days after deanrie confirmed in “Free Cursor Ultra with Grok” that “Cursor Ultra stays active as long as your SuperGrok Heavy subscription is active” and that the one-month wording on the help page was outdated.

What actually happened:

  • SuperGrok Heavy: active
    • Grok link: succeeded, Grok Bot works
      • Cursor: still shows Free, with a prompt to “Upgrade to Pro $20/mo”
        • Ultra: never provisioned
      • On the xAI side I have three refund tickets open - PRO-82790, PRO-84854, PRO-85435. In six days not one has received a reply from a human being. The first was closed with a Terms of Service template.
    • I am not asking anyone here to process a refund; I understand that is xAI’s side. My question for @Colin and @deanrie is narrower:
  • What is the position for customers who paid while that confirmation was still standing and unretracted on this forum? Some users who linked earlier appear to still have Ultra at $0. Those of us who paid during the same window, but linked a few days later, have nothing.

A clear answer would help a lot of people in this thread.

@deanrie following up on your 15 Aug confirmation in Free Cursor Ultra with Grok (posts #6 and #9): the banner is the correct info, Cursor Ultra stays active as long as SuperGrok Heavy is active. Colin also wrote in this thread on 18 Aug that Heavy subscribers do not need to maintain two plans.

I linked individual SuperGrok Heavy. Same pattern as others here:

  • Individual SuperGrok Heavy is active
  • Grok-to-Cursor link succeeded
  • Grok Bot works
  • Cursor dashboard shows Free (with SuperGrok Heavy). Current plan tile is Free / Canceled. No Ultra-at-$0 banner. Ultra was never provisioned.

Support ticket T-F4244. Replies are from Sam (Grok Bot AI Support Assistant) within a couple of minutes. Sam says a Heavy link does not create or provision Ultra, that Free with SuperGrok Heavy is expected, and they cannot provision Ultra. They did not escalate to a human and did not give an effective date for any policy change. There is no changelog announcement that this bundle ended.

Please have accounts review T-F4244 and either:

  1. Provision Cursor Ultra at $0 on this already-linked account while Heavy stays active, or
  2. Confirm in writing that the staff-confirmed bundle was withdrawn for new Heavy links, with an effective date.

I will not pay for Cursor Ultra separately.

Posted with Grok Bot on my behalf.

Same boat. I bought Heavy after deanrie said to trust the banner, then the original thread got locked and Sam started saying new links are Grok Bot only. Still can’t find a dated announcement that the bundle actually ended. If someone has a screenshot of an official cutoff, I’d like to see it.

Same issue here (T-F3597), I‘d really appreciate it if we could get some human help. I understand that mistakes happen but especially since tons of people on social media were celebrating after the Grok Bot post that Supergrok Heavy is the best subscription out there because it grants Ultra and GrokBot, leading people to subscribe just to find out the promotion was removed without any word feels… wrong. It would be great if there was a solution for us poor fellas who subscribed yesterday during that change.

Edit: And what’s with admins making so many threads about this promo invisible? That feels so wrong.

https://forum.cursor.com/t/free-cursor-ultra-with-grok/168286

https://forum.cursor.com/t/supergrok-heavy-cursor-ultra-for-free-discount-ended/169113

https://forum.cursor.com/t/so-disappointed-the-supergrok-heavy-x-cursor-ultra-promo-endend-just-like-that/169116

New detail worth adding: yvez just confirmed the help-site promo text was still readable yesterday morning EU time and was gone by the evening - it now just redirects to a Grok Bot help page. So this wasn’t only the forum thread getting locked; the public docs were pulled the same day, with no dated announcement anywhere.

The only official announcement I can find that mentions the promo had ended is this one by Colin:

Strangely enough, it was posted after I (and others) had already made our purchases. And the entire thread has since been hidden, so you can’t even find it unless you have a direct link like the one above.

Additionally, Cursor’s AI support told me that it handles tickets end to end and can’t escalate them to a human. So telling us to stop discussing this here and just contact the “support team” doesn’t really solve anything. The bot simply tells us that everything is working as intended, but it can’t make the kind of judgment call a human could—like recognizing that the official communication around this was pretty much nonexistent.

We bought something believing the promo was still active because there was no indication that it had ended. For whatever reason, one promo was turned off and another one was introduced right afterward without any clear communication during that transition. That led to people purchasing SuperGrok Heavy under the reasonable belief that they would still receive Cursor Ultra, only to find out after paying that the benefit no longer existed.

And when you then try to figure out what happened, there’s barely any trace of the old offer left because the help article, forum threads, and other information about it have seemingly disappeared.

Honestly, the right thing to do would be to look into these cases individually and honor the Supergrok Heavy subscriptions that were purchased yesterday. How were we supposed to know the promo had ended when there was no announcement anywhere at the time we made our purchases?

Having the support bot simply tell us to contact xAI for a refund or pay separately for Cursor Ultra if we still want it is a really strange way to handle an issue that was ultimately caused by unclear communication around the end of the promotion.
