Just downloaded Cursor, hit usage limit on first message

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Hi! I just downloaded Cursor and created a new account. I tried typing in a message (“create a basic landing page in React and Tailwind”), and it didn’t even show the “Generating…” message. My message just moved up to the top and the enter button (the upward facing arrow) just showed up again, as if my message hadn’t been sent. It also was accompanied with the “Hit Usage limit” message… it’s confusing because this is literally my first Cursor usage ever, so unclear how I could’ve hit my usage limit already

I’ve tried quitting and restarting multiple times, made sure that XCode etc. was installed as well.

Also, I’m trying to upload a screen recording of the bug but the Upload button doesn’t react either.

Steps to Reproduce

Download Cursor
Try to type in a prompt

Expected Behavior

Type in a prompt and press enter, and there should be some sort of response or “Generating” kind of message.

Sorry for the frustrating first experience!
I’ve raised this with the team and we’re looking into this.

Happened the same to me. On Windows tho

Yeah, happened to me too just now.

same here, installed cursor, signed up and annoyingly had to provide my phone number for verification and then first message telling me to upgrade to cursor pro for more agent usage, didn’t even get a single reply. i got to admit having to provide my phone number almost made me quit at that point.

Hey, thanks for the report. Could you share a screenshot of the error?

Not sure the screenshot is very helpful, but I have used 0 tokens since I signed up yesterday. I wanted to try Cursor, but so far I can’t…
