MCP, Rules, Hooks etc - menu option vanished from settings

Hey Chris. This is a follow-up to what we were looking at yesterday in your thread about forced updates Unwanted forced updates applied without consent or warning, but the situation has moved on a bit.

Yesterday on 3.10.20, the old Rules / Plugins / Tools & MCPs / Hooks tabs were still there under the banner. Now the Customize layout has moved one step further and those tabs are hidden, and on 3.10.20 there still isn’t a visible Customize entry in Settings. So it feels like everything is gone.

Nothing is lost and you still have access. The entry point is just temporarily via the command palette:

  • Ctrl+Shift+P then type Open Customize. You’ll find MCP, Rules, Hooks, and Plugins there.

If you prefer working with files, the configs still work directly like before:

  • MCP: ~/.cursor/mcp.json
  • Rules: .cursor/rules/
  • Hooks: the relevant hooks JSON

The fact that on your version the visible entry to these settings disappeared from Settings isn’t expected. It’s not something in your setup. I’ve flagged it to the team and we’re tracking it. On newer builds there is a visible Customize link in Settings, but I remember you don’t want to upgrade because of MCP caching. Using Open Customize should unblock you right now without updating.

On "update.mode": "none" and server-side changes, I already shared your stance with the team as feedback about the rollout mechanism from the previous thread. I can’t promise an ETA, but I’ll post an update if there is one.

Can you try Open Customize and tell me if you can see your MCPs there?
