That was yesterday’s version. Just uploaded today’s update, same issue.
Notice Sonnet and Opus versions (normal and thinking) are indistinguishable in the menu.
I can see that updating to 3.0.9 didn’t help, the issue is still there. We got a few more reports like this today, and it’s a confirmed issue. The thinking and non-thinking model variants in the dropdown really look identical in the editor layout.
As a temporary workaround, the thinking variants are usually listed below the regular ones in the dropdown. For example, if you see two Opus 4.6 entries, the lower one is most likely the thinking version.
yeh, another workaround - I turned off the opus model I didn’t want to accidentally select in the main Models Settings panel, where you can still tell which is which. So it no longer appears in the drop down list.
Hey @paulmontreal, I’m back with an update on this thread.
Over the last few months, we’ve improved the model picker a lot. Thinking and non-thinking options are now labeled differently. Non-thinking now has a “No Thinking” sub-label, and thinking shows a reasoning level, so they don’t look the same in the dropdown anymore. On the latest version of Cursor, this should be fixed automatically.
If you’re still seeing this on the latest version, please start a new thread with fresh details and we’ll take a look separately. I’m going to close this one.
