Navigation icons no longer rendering

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I use the forward/back arrows all the time by keeping the “Navigation Controls” on upper toolbar checked. However sometime in the past week they have disappeared and do not reappear even after 1) unchecking/checking them 2) quitting the application and restarting.

This is on latest MacOS Tahoe 26.2 (25C56).

Steps to Reproduce

Start up cursor, right click upper toolbar and select Navigation Controls

Expected Behavior

Forward and Back arrows should be present.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

I just realized that toggling from Agents to Editor in a new window makes it appear:

However, that Agents/Editor thing was not appearing on my other windows. example with a dev window open in my projects directory with the ttemp window over it:

But after closing that window and re-opening the Agents thing is no longer selectable and the nav buttons disappear.

Hey thanks for the report, this is a known issue in Cursor v2.3 - navigation controls disappear when the agent panel is on the right side.

Workaround:

  1. Make sure you’re in Editor mode (not Agent) - press Cmd + E
  2. Check that Command Center is enabled: Cmd + , > search “Command Center” > turn it on
  3. If the buttons still don’t show up, move the agent panel to the left side (View > Appearance > Move Primary Side Bar Right)

When the agent is on the left, the navigation buttons should appear.

Details and discussion here: Cursor 2.3: Command Center no longer appears in the top bar, preventing forward/back navigation buttons (regression from 2.2)

Let me know if it doesn’t help.
