New Cursor is Rough

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Background Agent (GitHub, Slack, Web, Linear)

Describe the Bug

Idk what is happening, but the newer version of cursor are rough on Auto mode. It doesn’t like to go through the codebase automatically and feels like it’s back to making me do all the work, instead of going out on it’s own and figuring it out. For instance, if I ask it something, it gives a generic response instead of looking at the code and giving a detailed answer. Feels like there’s been a specific add to the prompt to minimize costs of going through the codebase consistently to minimize token use.

Steps to Reproduce

Just chat with an agent.

Expected Behavior

go through codebase but doesn’t.

Operating System

MacOS

For AI issues: which model did you use?

AUTO

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

try asking “what is your context?” and see if it mentions the “Workspace root / git repo” and the current open file. What happens if you drag the root folder from the exploer into the chat box and refer to it, this may force it to take it into context, just a test, of course this should be automatic.

yea it’s connected to the right repo and when I specify the repo it will look through it. But before it did a good job of going through all the repos and finding the necessary links, while now it really only focuses on what I tell it

It’s awful, I just had to downgrade to version 2.4.37.
