Opus Models, Opus 4.6

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

What is going with Opus models?! Or they are invisible, or they hide randomly, or for some reason e.g. 4.6 is switched to high-thinking.
“5 hours is ok” → then the one day is “Opus-random. Have fun”. WTF???

The development turns in suffering. When I need Opus → “no Opus already”.

Steps to Reproduce

Use Cursor (I`ve tried maybe 6 versions) and Opus models.

Expected Behavior

Just working as it should

Operating System

Linux

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Hey, let’s break it down step by step, since there are a few things mixed together here:

  1. Opus 4.6 switching to high-thinking is expected. Opus 4.6’s default non-max config uses thinking: true, effort: high, so high-thinking is the main/default mode.

  2. Models disappearing or being hidden. The model picker has had a lot of changes in recent versions, and some bugs have already been fixed. You’re on 3.0.16 from April 9, and the current stable version is 3.1.x. Update Cursor and check again. A lot of threads with similar symptoms went away after updating:

If, after updating, Opus still disappears from the list, please send:

  • the version after the update
  • a screenshot of the model picker at the moment Opus isn’t visible
  • what exactly you’re looking for: Opus 4.6, Opus 4.6 Max, or Opus 4.6 Fast?

That’ll make it clear what we’re dealing with.
