Picked claude but I'm getting errors for vertex rate limit

Describe the Bug

I got a message:

We’ve hit a rate limit with vertex. Please switch to the ‘auto-select’ model, another model, or try again in a few moments.
(Request ID: 4ee9234b-2d7c-4962-b23b-xxxxxxxxx)

I’m using claude as the model in MAX mode. Why is it trying to use vertex? Are they charging me anthropic rates for vertex calls secretly?

Steps to Reproduce

Just showed up because Vertex is having issues.

Expected Behavior

It shouldn’t be using Vertex when a non-related model is explicitly set.

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

VSCode Version: 1.96.2

Any updates to this? Is it a UI display error or is it actually overriding my choice of model and somehow I’m being charged claude rates for vertex?

Please clarify.

Anyone?

Vertex AI is a service from Google.
They also serve Claude Sonnet 4.

This means that Cursor is using them in order to provide Claude, not that requests are redirected to Gemini in secret.
